The Central Queensland coast offers hidden gems for keen anglers. Based in Gladstone, our charter service has the flexibility to fish all kinds of fisheries with minimal effort. Barramundi and king threadfin salmon are high on the priority list for keen lure casters. King salmon at over a metre in length draw anglers from interstate, and who wouldn’t want to catch a metre plus king salmon, let alone a metre long barramundi? Saltwater barramundi are glorious fish to look at with their muscled silver sides and missile-like body shape. They are strong fighters and hit lures with a real punch, so much to the reason why anglers get addicted to their evil strike.

Mud crabs get seriously thick in our coastal estuaries and we operate crabbing charters to some of the most eye catching environments in our region. Take a ride in our 6.60 metre Cairns Custom Craft to these unique landscapes and catch not only a great feed of crabs but soak your soul in the awesome and scenic outdoors.

Offshore, we have plenty of fishing options from jig fishing for demersal fish like fingermark, coral trout, red jew, snapper, black jew, estuary cod plus much more. Large cobia, trevally, tuna and a run of 15-30 odd kilo spanish mackerel during winter is about as magnetic as it can get for a keen lure fisherman willing to troll and cast spin tackle.

Metre plus queenfish are also another target- caught casting or trolling; a perfect fly fishing opportunity.

We also offer heli-fishing charters. Flying to remote waters via a mid air thrill is equally as buzzing as then lure fishing for barramundi, fingermark and king salmon in an isolated tidal river. We have a long list of seemingly endless fishing options at Johnny Mitchell’s Fishing Charters.

Minimum Passengers: We offer 1 passenger trips, but the best deal is available for 2-3 passengers.

Maximum Passengers: Maximum of 6 passengers, yet 2-3 is more suitable. We can cater for more- we have several boats.

Charter Inclusions for a fee: Most things are covered in the total cost. Accommodation is generally sourced by the clients.

Charter Inclusions for free: On most of our charters and tours, all tackle, rods, reels, lures, lunch, cold drinks and nibbles are supplied, however please check with your guide as we have numerous trips with varying inclusions.

Company Information

I have been a guide for 7 years, it’s my full time job, my passion and a big chunk of my life. Guiding clients onto great fish and teaching clients is part of the reason I get so much personal satisfaction. Watching the smile on their (client) face is what it’s all about. I have several vessels- 4.50 metres, 6.20 metres and 6.60 metres so we can cover both small waterways and the salty blue water. I have vast experience in all of the fisheries I operate in and this in itself forms the backbone of our sucessful business.
